About the job:
The successful candidate will report to E&I Discipline Manager and will be assigned to various projects associated with the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals industry as directed by the Project Management group.
The candidate will possess a solid understanding of I&C design principles complemented by practical working experience within Oil and Gas processing facilities. The candidate is required to be a well-organized and effective communicator. The candidate will be able to work independently, lead a team of professionals (engineers and designers) and be effective when working in a team environment.

Roles and responsibilities:
- Assigned as working Lead (sub-lead. area lead or project lead) for multiple sustaining capital projects, while still being able to take on Engineering/Design related deliverables.
- Checking Instrument Loop diagrams as well as Control Systems cabinets design and wiring.
- Participating in design reviews, HAZOPs and SILA.
- Validation and checking of installation details and Instrument/Fire and Gas location plans.
- Performing instrument selection, specification and inline device sizing calculations.
- Developing instrumentation deliverables in SPI such as instrument index, I/O list, I/O assignment, Equipment List, Alarm Rationalization List, Wiring drawings.
- Reviewing project documents for scope, presentation and technical accuracy.
- Developing Material Requisitions for field instruments and automated valves as well as completion of Technical Bid Evaluations.
- Development of Control Narratives and Cause and Effect diagrams.
- Support in providing estimates for engineering work.
- Reviewing and approving vendor documents.
- Interfacing with other disciplines for required input (such as mechanical equipment packages)
- Performing field visits to validate existing drawings, and confirm tie-in locations.
- Providing home office support to on-site personnel and the construction management team.
- Assist in providing technical support to engineering groups at site.
- Interfacing with various engineering disciplines and suppliers
- Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting to meet project goals/targets.
- Completing input to the weekly and monthly project reporting along with schedule reviews
- Utilize the workshare office or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Center) for completing the electrical deliverables
- Degree/Diploma specializing in Instrumentation and Control Systems from an accredited University or College.
- 15+ years of instrumentation design experience in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Registration through APEGA as a P.ENG/P.L. (ENG).
- Experience using Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Experience with Analyzers would be an asset
- Strong client focus; able to represent the company professionally when communicating with clients and visiting client sites
- Experience with Imperial, Shell and Suncor projects will be considered an asset.
- Works with minimal supervision manages own time effectively and maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities.
- Knowledge of domestic and international codes (CEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.)
- Very good communication and report-writing skills in English.
- Demonstrate a high regard for safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.

- Ability to meet assignment schedule & deliver quality products under pressure
