About the job:
Kent is looking for a I&C / Functional Safety Engineer to work in our Sarnia, Ontario office. The Engineer’s duties will be carried out under the direction/guidance of the I&C Department Manager and range from Functional Safety Engineering (validation/development of IPF procedures) as well as I&C Engineering on brownfield projects.

Your responsibilities:

  • Development of IPF Procedures and update to existing
  • Able to work independently as I&C lead on sustaining capital projects
  • Checking/validation of Instrument Loop diagrams as well as Control Systems cabinets design and wiring.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and SILA/LOPAs
  • Perform instrument engineering; including Instrument selection, specification, inline device sizing calculations as well as review/validation of instrument/F&G location drawings.
  • Input into the preparation of control system (BPCS, ESD, F&G, etc) design, procurement and implementation
  • Support in the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • Develop Material Requisitions and Technical Bid Evaluations
  • Review and approve vendor documents
  • Development of Control Narratives and Cause and Effect diagrams/SDK’s
  • Provide support for engineering workhour estimates
  • Provide technical support to engineering groups at site
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines (Process/Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting to meet project goals
  • Complete weekly and monthly progress reporting to the client along with Bi-Weekly schedule reviews
IPF Procedure Support/Development:

This involves updating/creating Instrument Protected Function Procedures for any safety instrumented functions (SIFs). It entails working with the IPF Focal who directs the workflow. The candidate will work with different disciplines to understand the IPF and how it can be tested. The candidate will write the procedure and see through to approval.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Qualification/ Certification:

  • Degree or Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems from an accredited University or College.
  • Experience working with Smart Plant Instrumentation / Intools
  • 10+ years of instrumentation Engineering/Design experience in the Oil and Gas Industry
  • Proven track record of successful projects
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Understanding and familiarity of API, ASME, CSA and ISA codes and directives
  • Registration with PEO as P.ENG or Limited License is preferred
  • Registration with TUV or Exida as a CFSE is required for IPF work.
