About the job:

Kent is looking for a Senior Piping Designer to join our Edmonton team. This role supports the development and execution of piping designs for industrial projects and requires strong technical expertise in 3D modeling, layout development, and multidisciplinary coordination. The Senior Piping Designer will work collaboratively within a Workshare environment, ensuring seamless coordination between local and remote project teams. This role requires the ability to operate both independently and collaboratively, supporting project execution through high-quality design deliverables, field verification, and effective communication with internal teams and clients. This position is based in Edmonton and requires the ability to perform on-site work and field verification as needed.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Piping Design & Modeling

  • Develop and model piping systems using Plant 3D and AVEVA E3D in accordance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Produce 3D models, piping isometrics, layouts, P&ID integrations, and general arrangement drawings to support project design and execution.
  • Prepare material take-offs (MTOs), fabrication drawings, and detailed design deliverables in accordance with project requirements.
  • Review vendor documentation and integrate vendor equipment and package information into the piping design model.
  • Ensure adherence to project quality requirements, drawing standards, and revision control processes.
  • Support integration of piping systems within the broader plant layout while ensuring compliance with industry codes and client specifications.

Field Verification & Site Support

  • Conduct field checks and site verification activities to gather accurate as-built information and resolve design challenges.
  • Perform site visits and walkdowns to verify existing conditions and support the development of piping designs.
  • Work closely with project teams to resolve design issues identified during construction or field execution.
  • Support the development of as-built documentation where required.

Design Coordination & Collaboration

  • Coordinate piping design activities with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews, model walkdowns, and coordination meetings with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate within a Workshare environment, ensuring effective communication and continuity between local and remote project teams.
  • Communicate design intent clearly with internal teams, contractors, and client representatives.

Leadership & Technical Support

  • Lead, mentor, and support junior and intermediate piping designers to ensure consistent and high-quality deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolution of complex design challenges during project execution.
  • Support project leads in estimating design effort, planning design work, and monitoring progress.
  • Present design solutions clearly and professionally to internal and external stakeholders.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology, Process Piping Design, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in piping design within industrial, oil & gas, chemical, or similar sectors.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, Navisworks, or other piping design software.
  • Strong understanding of ASME, ANSI, and other applicable piping codes and standards.
  • Experience producing piping layouts, isometrics, general arrangement drawings, and fabrication documentation.
  • Experience with field verification, site walkdowns, and as-built documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively within a Workshare environment and coordinate with multiple offices or remote teams.

Communication

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical design information to engineers, designers, contractors, and client stakeholders.
