About the job:

The Principal Planner role provides structured planning support to across a number of contracts and provides a supervisory and monitoring role for less senior planners in the APAC PMO.

Your responsibilities:


The Principal Planner will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Determining and allocating the planning resources required to support Projects in the APAC region. Acts as the primary contact back to the corporate planning function.
  • Work with Director of Project Delivery, Project Directors, Portfolio Manager (Engineering Consultancy business) and Project managers to ensure that any resource allocated to a project is suitably qualified and supported.
  • With a solid understanding and experience in projects, deploys this experience to develop schedules with minimal intervention required.
  • Working with all functions; engineering, procurement, fabrication, logistics, construction and commissioning in the development of schedules through various stages of project maturity. Generally, stages include bid stage, concept design, pre-FEED, FEED and EPC execution.
  • Required to support project teams with an understanding of the activities across more than one workstream in a programme.
  • Be capable of quickly delivering high level schedules for proposal inputs while also able to deliver detailed (level 5) execution schedules.
  • Provide senior level guidance to team for schedules to support schedule risk management (probabilistic and deterministic), change management, schedule resource loading and levelling.
  • Works with the planning software at an enterprise level; not just user level; and establishes the APAC planning systems in line with the global Kent criteria and license arrangements.
  • Provides supervision to subordinate planners and works towards ensuring the quality of the schedule outputs by other subordinate planners.
  • Work with Projects Directors and Project Managers across multiple contracts to meet key milestones.
  • Provides insights for management consideration in relation to ‘best in industry’ approaches to planning.
  • Develop project controls and planning execution strategies.
  • Develop basis of schedule documents.
  • Be able to produce schedules for both engineering and construction (EPC, EPCm or PMC) projects with high level of skill and understanding of construction and engineering planning and programming principles, standards and methodology.
  • Produce resource histograms / management charts per schedule.
  • Ensures schedules are created in line with the Kent Integrated Management System (KMS), schedules are integrated with the agreed project coding structure.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise and effectively deliver to timelines and department rhythms.
  • Work with Project teams to solicit schedule feedback for schedule updates including attending project progress meetings and by requesting individuals to provide updates. If the information is requirement to complete a schedule doesn’t wait for this input to be received but solicits the response.
  • Prepare reporting on the various schedules to meet the agreed reporting requirements.
  • Attendees Kent forum’s or Center or Excellence meetings related to planning.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
  • Minimum 15 years relevant experience in a planning role
  • Minimum 5 years in a Lead planning role.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 in an engineering and construction environment, managing multiple projects
  • Experience with Schedule health check software and schedule risk analysis software (Safran, pertmaster or similar)
  • Proficient with the use of email, word, excel & MS Project
  • Demonstrated efficiency in a technical and administrative role within an engineering team
  • Excellent comprehension skills that enable review pf client instructions, technical data, company records to ensure compliance.
  • Sound understanding of what constitutes high standards in schedule development.
  • Sound understanding of Earned Value Management – particularly the role the schedule plays with this type of reporting.

Communication:
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Core Competencies:
  • P6 Enterprise software.
  • Understands what constitutes high standards in schedule development.
  • The ability to work almost autonomously on a schedule with the application of experience and the interpretation of project artefacts (scope of works for example) in schedule structuring (to the required level of detail), task creation and task linking.
  • Ability to evaluate issues that may affect planned activities and quickly negotiate and implement recovery actions to keep the plan on track.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Capability with prioritising tasks
