Wealthy nations are basically exporting their problem to poorer countries. Did you know: Every year we dump a massive 2.12 billion tons of waste. This stunning amount of waste is partly because 99% of the stuff we buy is trashed within 6 months. We’re guessing that you’ve probably heard a lot about the importance of recycling. But the truth is that human beings have become extremely wasteful. The best and first option should be to eliminate or reduce our consumption. This is something we are implementing across our operations with our drive to eliminate single use plastics. That aside, when it comes to waste management, there is also more each of us can do. On our work sites, good housekeeping is rule number one. And as part of that, we make sure we segregate our wet and dry waste (the wet for composting and the dry for recycling). We also segregate our hazardous or toxic wastes. We hope to engender a culture within our people to refuse, reduce, repurpose, recycle and rot (compost) that they will continue in their lives at home.
