Pre-FEED and FEED
Alder Field Subsea System
A high pressure and high temperature gas condensate field
Location: North Sea, UK
Operator: Chevron
Duration: 2012 - 2017
Scope: Pre-FEED and FEED Services
During Pre-FEED we undertook subsea system designs for a 27km subsea tie-back to Britannia, and for a FPSO alternative that included a gas export system to a tie-in point on a third-party trunkline. FEED followed for the selected option of the subsea tie-back. Our multidiscipline engineering team addressed the key project challenges of:
- Development of the flowline pressure containment strategy downstream of the subsea HIPPS including demonstration of the feasibility of utilising a lower rated riser
- Functional design of Chevron’s first subsea HIPPS
- Safety engineering activities including a LOPA, SSIV location, fortified zone design, dropped object study
- Design of a twin cooling loop manifold structure including CFD assessment of heat transfer
- Corrosion Management Strategy to enable use of carbon steel pipeline in aggressive fluid environment
- Flow assurance including the development of comprehensive operating philosophies
- Mechanical design including limit state analysis, upheaval buckling assessments
In addition, the FEED activities included design of the subsea production system, pipeline installation market review, pre-commissioning assessment, FEED procurement specifications, cost estimates and project schedules, and support to Value Improvement Practices.
