About the Job:

Kent is recruiting for Instrumentation and Controls Field Engineer in Sarnia, Ontario who will be responsible for searching for and closing instrument information (datasheet, loop drawings, wiring) required by commissioning, resolving constructor request for information (RFI), resolving commissioning request for information, and completing design on missing scope.

Reports to Instrumentation/Automation Engineering Manager.


The I&C Field Engineer’s duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Support the commissioning team with technical document requirements. Find missing datasheets, loop drawing, wiring, and other information as required.
  • Respond to commissioning team RFI’s
  • Review and interpret project specifications and drawings.
  • Interface with Construction Contractors in resolving RFI requirements.
  • Review Engineer of Record response, and technically accept or reject disposition.
  • Review (and/or develop) and coordinate field design changes.
  • Initiate non-conformances, review and technically approve disposition.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Construction Contractors in their Project Area;
  • Inspect Contractor field documents for regular maintenance of as-built records by Contractor.
  • Participate as the Owner’s technical representative during system turnover activities.


The successful candidate will have an Engineering Degree and minimum of 10 years of field engineering experience in its construction and or commissioning activity.

In addition, they will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in Instrument and Controls in major industrial plants
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others in a non-confrontational manner and work collaboratively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Registration with PEO as a P.ENG or Limited License
