About the job:

We are looking for an experienced process engineer to act as Independent Process Engineer (IPE) supporting numerous HAZOPs and HAZOP revalidations for a mixture of local and international oil & gas clients. The Independent Process Engineer provides the ‘outsider’s view’ with regards to bringing a perspective on industry best practice, challenging group-think and corporate biases and ensuring that hazard assessments are realistic and open to challenge. Independent of the facilities under examination, this is an opportunity to bring real risk improvement and avoid needless engineering focus in low-risk areas.

The HAZOP revalidations take place according to client requirements, and may be conducted virtually or in person. They may also consist of a desk-top review of the lower risk parts of the plant where the IPE would independently review the nodes and evaluate hazards to be reviewed in due course by full HAZOP teams.

Joining our Engineering & Consulting business in Aberdeen, you’ll be in a world-class and growing team of over 25 process engineers helping our clients deliver more from their existing assets safely and efficiently and helping them on their energy transition journeys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Independent Process Engineer on the HAZOP, challenging groupthink and company biases and taking the independent, ‘outsider’s view’.
  • Share relevant industry best practice
  • Query the design and challenge the ‘status quo’
  • Work effectively to consistently high quality
  • Understand clients’ requirements and contribute to winning bids for future HAZOP work
  • Where workload varies, be open to work within the wider process team, on design or operability studies
  • Potential to supervise and develop junior engineers

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience

  • Engineering degree, honors or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Likely Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Chemical Engineers or equivalent
  • Significant related experience in the Oil and Gas Industry or similar
  • Process design experience
  • Understanding of relevant industry codes and standards
  • Operational experience
  • HAZOP experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Interest in this type of work
  • Analytical and problem-solving mind
  • Not afraid to challenge

We are committed to our diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves, thrive and develop. From day one, we offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and employee networks to support staff from different backgrounds.

As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
