Engineering the world’s first electrified biogas-to-SAF facility - innovatively, sustainably, and with global impact in mind

Operator: Syzygy Plasmonics

Scope: FEED for electrified biogas-to-SAF facility

Location: Uruguay

Duration: 2025 – ongoing

Kent is delivering front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the world’s first electrified biogas-to-SAF production facility, located in Durazno, Uruguay. Developed by Syzygy Plasmonics and powered by its proprietary NovaSAF™ platform, the project marks a global breakthrough in converting biogas into cost-effective, scalable sustainable aviation fuel using clean electricity.

The facility will produce over 350,000 gallons of ASTM-certified SAF annually, combining biogas and Power-to-Liquids (PtL) technologies to unlock underutilised waste streams and achieve ultra-low water use and carbon intensity. Backed by long-term feedstock and site agreements with Estancias del Lago, the project sets a new standard for economically viable, decentralised SAF production that meets EU, US and CORSIA regulations.

### **Scope of Work**

Kent is leading the FEED for this first-of-a-kind facility, including:
• Integration of biogas reforming and CO₂ utilisation technologies
• Modular process and utility design for replication in biogas-rich regions
• Sustainability-focused plant configuration with minimal infrastructure requirements
• Execution planning through to final investment decision (FID)

### **Services Delivered**

• Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED)
• Process integration studies
• Site and utility planning
• Equipment definition and early sourcing
• Constructability and modularisation strategy

### **Kent’s Role**

Kent is supporting Syzygy to pioneer a profitable new model for sustainable fuel production, enabling the delivery of a replicable solution to decarbonise aviation at scale, from farm waste to flight-ready fuel.

### **Key Achievements**

- **SAF Capacity:**
Over 350,000 gallons of sustainable aviation fuel produced per year.
- **Target Carbon Reduction:**
Greater than 80% reduction in carbon intensity compared to conventional Jet-A fuel.
- **Infrastructure:**
Designed without the need for gas pipelines or water-intensive processes.
- **Feedstock Model:**
Utilises cow manure–derived biogas and captured CO₂.
- **Renewable Inputs:**
Powered entirely by Uruguay’s nearly 100% renewable electricity grid.

### **Differentiators**

• Leading FEED expertise in clean fuels and PtL systems
• Global energy transition knowledge, delivered locally
• Proven capability to bring first-of-a-kind technologies to life
• Early-stage execution planning to accelerate FID and delivery
• Commitment to sustainable design and modular scalability

### **Result**

Kent’s role in NovaSAF™ 1 represents a defining step in the decarbonisation of air travel. This project showcases how engineering innovation and global collaboration can turn agricultural waste into a high-value, sustainable product while leaving a legacy of environmental, economic and regulatory impact.
