Offshore Substation design to German BSH standards

Iberdrola is developing the Baltic Eagle Offshore Wind Farm (BEOWF) in partnership with 50Hertz. The project is in the German EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) within the Baltic Sea. BEOWF consists of 60, 8MW and 12MW WTGs, spanning over an area of 36km2 and is 31km from shore, with a capacity of 476MW. At the location of the offshore substation (OSS) the water depth is 42.5m.

Kent has supported Iberdrola with the concept selection of the OSS topsides, jacket and piled foundations, completed the conceptual design to achieve BSH 1st release and developed the contracting design to achieve BSH 2nd release.

The following services were provided by Kent:

  • Full conceptual design and contracting design of the OSS
  • Geotechnical design and interfaces with the appointed geotechnical expert
  • Chairing HAZID Reviews
  • Structural, electrical, process and utilities design
  • Structural analyses, including the full in-place, load-out, transportation and lift analysis of the structure
  • Fatigue, ship impact & ice loading analysis.
  • Hull retaining verification (collision friendliness).
  • Grouted connection design, FEA and interfaces with the appointed grout expert.
  • Interaction with the appointed Independent Verification Body to achieve certification for the BSH process.
